Cementrafied, with steep sides the Los Angeles River runs slow, shallow and wide. A thirsty creek-sized river until the big rains come down and the hills and valley drain. The little river becomes a lethal force to be feared and avoided.
The longest river in this country is the Missouri, a hungry river that eats at its banks, giving the river its nickname – Big Muddy. Every day is Thanksgiving for that river.
In Los Angeles they keep their river where it belongs, no matter how out of control it gets.
The river has gotten the attention of City planners. In some sections nature has returned. Progress is positive and pride is possible.
